Underground Production Scheduling
MMC has developed its own suite of software tools to effectively model underground production, incorporating: scheduling, costings, sensitivity analysis and probability modelling (@Risk and in house developed algorithms)

MMC has used Monte Carlo type predictive techniques to solve a number of mining related problems:

Modelling of lifetime occupational radiation doses in a mining population to demonstrate that the higher risk estimated by the International Commission on Radiation Protection did not warrant more stringent legislation as existing legislation was already providing the required protection. The ICRP subsequently changed its recommendations.

Grade prediction in kimberlite dyke (fissure) mines; these exhibit the most extreme example of “nugget effect” and “good” grade information is not available. Modelling based on anecdotal grades gave close correlation between modelled and actual, thus restoring faith in the mine scheduling function.
